Launched in 2005 with more than $5 million in funding, the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund (KSCF) invests in early-stage Kentucky businesses that specialize in biomedical and health care services, medical device development, and health care information technology. The KSCF will invest in companies at the earliest stages of development, providing a pipeline of investment opportunities for later-stage venture funds. The University of Louisville Foundation, the state's Commonwealth Seed Capital Fund and Humana have each invested $1 million in KSCF. Additional investors include Baptist Hospital Systems, Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare, Kosair Charities, the James Graham Brown Foundation and the Kentucky State District Council of Carpenters Pension Trust Fund.
