Established in 1990, Permal Capital is an autonomous entity within the Permal Group, a pioneer in the formation of multi-manager vehicles in the alternative investment asset class, having started with proprietary capital over 35 years ago. Permal Capital investment activities include: primary funds (newly formed private equity funds, managed by top-performing independent managers); secondary market interests (purchasing interests in existing limited partnerships from investors seeking liquidity); liquidity managed structures (allows full funding of investor subscriptions with liquidity managed for the investor to mitigate J curve and other inefficiencies); and direct investments in dynamic private companies, providing liquidity to existing investors (secondary directs) or investing alongside leading private equity firms with specific expertise and established relationships with Permal. The Permal Group Ltd. is owned by Legg Mason, Inc. Prior to the purchase by Legg Mason in 2005, Permal Group was owned by Sequana Capital (formerly Worms & Cie). Today, the firm has grown to 17 dedicated private equity employees and has received capital commitments of approximately $1.8 billion across ten multi-manager investment vehicles as well as other investment structures.
