Texas Venture Labs at The University of Texas at Austin (TVL) is a university-wide initiative to support technology commercialization, entrepreneurship and innovation, while providing a unique and directly applicable educational experience for participating students. TVL has a series of initiatives designed to help graduate students build entrepreneurial skills, including the TVL Practicum and TVL Leadership Practicum and New Venture Creation I & II courses, the TVL Scholarship, and the Accenture Venture Partner program. Graduate students can also compete in the Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition. The TVL Accelerator provides an opportunity for startups to take their ventures to the next level with the unique benefit of leveraging UT resources and talent. TVL also provides a venue for investors to engage with research and startups from the University of Texas at Austin through the Venture Expo, and the Venture Labs Investment Competitions (VLIC). Every semester TVL recruits 25-35 students and 10 to 12 companies to join the TVL Accelerator program. The Venture Labs Investment Competition features 40 teams who gain eligibility by winning a regional new venture competition. New Venture Creation allows students to research and refine business ideas over the course of either one or two semesters. Close to $50 million has been raised over the last ten years by new ventures that have launched through the entrepreneurship environment at the McCombs School of Business. This includes eight companies that have raised a million-plus in funding and two that have gone liquid.
